What is Animal Digest?

First Definition:
Animal digest is a common ingredient used in pet foods. It is material which results from chemical and/or enzymatic hydrolysis of clean and undecomposed animal tissue. [1]

Second Definition (Clarification):
Animal digest means manure. Someone has collected the manure from another animal and put it in the pet food you are feeding your pet. [2]

Animal digest is materials treated with heat, enzymes and/or acids to form concentrated natural flavors. Only a small amount of a "chicken digest" is needed to produce "Chicken Flavored Cat Food," even though no actual chicken is added to the food. [2]
