Food Coloring

What is Food Coloring?

Food colorants are additives that are used for one sole purpose, to alter the color of a food product.

Natural, Artificial, Safe?

It is very misleading when a company lists a food color without displaying artificial, natural, or any trade name of the colorant.

For example, if you come across "Blue 1" the number 1 will signify whether it is artificial or natural according to international guidelines. Although, if the ingredient reads as, "Blue Food Coloring", this can be very misleading and mean it can be either artificial or natural.

It is rare to see colorants printed without the words natural, artificial or an associated number on packages.

Some pet foods still don't specify all colorants.
